Hello! I'm Brad Schaap, an independent insurance agent proudly serving clients in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the surrounding areas, and across Michigan (MI), Illinois (IL), Indiana (IN), and Ohio (OH) through Shield Insurance Agency.

After graduating from Calvin University in 2002 with a degree in Business Finance, I returned to my hometown of Chicago and dove into the insurance industry. I chose this path because I genuinely enjoy helping people cut through the complexity of insurance policies to find the right protection—giving them real peace of mind and confidence in their coverage.

My philosophy is simple: Every policyholder deserves a clear understanding of their risks and options. As an independent agent representing many of the top insurance companies (over 40 trusted carriers through Shield), I can shop the market to tailor coverage that truly fits your needs—whether it's home, auto, life, business, or other personal protections—without the pressure of a one-size-fits-all approach.

Since 2012, I've called Grand Rapids home, where I live with my wife Amber, our two wonderful kids, Isaac (Ike) and Audrey, and our furry family members: our Keeshond, Teddy, and Golden Retriever, Quinn.

When I'm not helping clients or spending time with my family, you'll likely find me on the softball field, golf course, cheering for my Chicago sports teams (sorry, not the Cubs!), volunteering in the community, serving as a Deacon at our church, or ushering folks to their seats on Sundays.
